About the Show

Join us for an afternoon of free participatory arts and science activities, curated by Jonathan Kaufman of Spontaneous Productions and Cllr Chris Best.

The event runs between 12 noon-4pm Upstairs at the Sydenham Centre, with free activities taking place around the building. A full calendar will appear on the Fun Palace website very soon, so check for details.

The Activities

12-1pm: fun dance and shadow puppetry workshop for children (3-12), with cast members from Spontaneous Productions’ PINOCCHIO show. No experience necessary, beginners welcome. Photo credit: by Mark Drinkwater

12-4pm: Genealogy – Richard Travell presents The Elephant Hunt: a genealogical game (2001 version)

12.30-2pm (Activity Room 2) Creative writing workshop for young people (8+)
Playwright and creative writing facilitator Victoria Summers will take young writers on a journey to look at ‘who we are’ and the positive people and places that we have in our community. Through sharing stories and memories, young people can devise their own short scripts as well as use images to tell stories. All children over 8 are welcome, regardless of writing ability.

1-1.45pm: Learn a song from the Victorian music hall

1.45-2.15pm (tbc): A fascinating talk and Q&A session on the Victorian music hall with historian Ken Watson

2.15-3pm: A sing-a-long Victorian music hall show, with professional singers and performers, presented by SEE3 and Spontaneous Productions. Join in the event by dressing up in Victorian costume and singing along to the musical numbers (see workshop above)

More Activities

12-3pm: Photography workshop with Mark Drinkwater (12noon-1pm in The Activity Room + sessions in high street from 1-3pm) – learn to take better photographs, and take part in the High Street shops photo challenge (see above)

2-3pm: Laughter Yoga A unique concept combining playful laughter exercises with yogic breathing. A fun way to boost health and energy with Annie Pownall (in The Activity Room).

3-4pm: Screening of slideshow inspired by photographs of Sydenham high street’s shops and business owners, originally taken by Ann Pownall in 2005, organised by Gerald Jones and Mark Drinkwater. Photo credit: Ann Pownall

3-4pm (Main Hall): Life drawing with Anna Lovely of the Lovely Gallery.
Draw from a live model, and take turns sitting for participating artists (clothing optional!)

2.30-3.30pm Decorate a heart-shaped box
