About the Show

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!

Explore the world of Airstrip One. You will be surveilled at all times by Big Brother’s telescreens, and the Thought Police will ensure you obediently follow instructions.

Winston Smith suspects his work rewriting history at the Ministry of Truth is a futile task. When he falls in love with the mysterious Julia from the Anti-Sex League, things soon take a very dark turn. But what is the secret of Room 101 and can he ever learn to love Big Brother?

Marking the 40th anniversary of this most infamous date, Spontaneous Productions invites you to experience its most innovative event yet: an immersive adaptation of Orwell’s nightmarish depiction of the future.

On the hour from 4pm-8pm on Sat 9/Sun 10 November 2024, 30 people at a time will be permitted entry to our walk-through installation, with interactive scenes from the book staged around multiple spaces Upstairs at the Sydenham Centre.

With a classic 1980s soundtrack, this highly entertaining—if sometimes disturbing—production is not suitable for young children. Please note that parents are advised to bring older children at their own discretion.

Performances last approx 45 mins. The show involves standing/walking for more than half of the show running time, but we can provide chairs for those who need them.
