About the Show
Sharing true life stories of refugees and migrants in South London through theatre, spoken word and music.
In 2024 & 2025, as part of Refugee Week, Sydenham-based theatre company Spontaneous Productions staged HOME FROM HOME and NO PLACE LIKE HOME – two events celebrating Lewisham becoming the first Borough of Sanctuary. Through music and spoken word we shared true life stories written and performed by refugees who had made their home in the borough. Both were highly acclaimed and sell-out performances.

Now with support from Lewisham’s NCIL fund, and assisted by Compass Collective, we have invited a wide range of participants to share their stories, through theatre, spoken word and music – culminating in two performances: at The Sydenham Centre on Fri 19 June and at Dragonfly Yoga Studio Sydenham on Saturday 20 June.
Through a series of creative workshops, led by experienced theatre makers Sophie Robinson and Massi Safa, those taking part have been given the opportunity to give voice to their experiences, challenging expectations, developing their writing and performance skills, and sharing their incredible stories of resilence, change and hope.
Featuring a performance from Zimbabwean poet Sheila Rupande and supported by professional performers, A Long Way from Home will bring true stories to vivid life, reminding us of our shared values and the importance of connection in an increasingly fragile world.
Part of Refugee Week 14-21 June 2026
Please note the show includes adult themes and is not suitable for young children.
